How much is Travel Insurance to Europe?

The cost of travel insurance can vary widely based on several important factors, such as:

  • Destination: the destination within Europe can affect the cost of cover. Spain, for example, has higher medical costs than most of Europe. This means that insurance for Spain will usually cost more than a policy for Italy.
  • Duration: the length of the trip will also impact the cost of the policy.
  • Your age (and anyone else named on the policy)
  • Pre-existing medical conditions for you and anyone else named on the policy.

You could consider if the policy meets your needs, by looking at the cover limits of the benefits. It is most important that it covers you if you need to make a claim.

Travel risk and healthcare in Europe

Tourists may face issues like pickpocketing, muggings, and scams. Knowing these risks and taking precautions can help. But, having travel insurance is essential for added security. Our Europe holiday insurance protects you from theft and other issues.

Healthcare in Europe varies by country. Australia has no healthcare agreement with all European nations. Even where agreements exist, they often do not cover all needs. Emergency assistance, repatriation, and medicine costs are often not included. This leaves travellers vulnerable to high medical expenses.

Medical bills in Europe can be very costly, especially for emergencies and specialised care. This makes AllClear’s Travel Insurance crucial. Our insurance covers many medical costs. This ensures you get care without high costs.

Still have questions?

We're here to help!

Do Australian citizens need travel insurance in Europe?

Yes, Australian citizens need travel insurance when travelling to Europe. Europe is mostly safe, but unforeseen events can happen. These include medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage. Travel insurance covers these situations. This prevents high out-of-pocket costs and gives you peace of mind.

How long in advance do you need travel insurance?

It’s best to buy travel insurance as soon as you book your trip. This covers you for any unexpected events before your trip, like cancellations or medical emergencies. By getting insurance early, you protect your travel investment from the start.

Can I add travel insurance after booking?

Yes, you can add travel insurance after booking your trip. However, it is best to buy travel insurance right after you book your trip. This ensures you have full cover. Delaying your purchase may leave you unprotected if events happen before you get your insurance.

Do you need a Schengen Visa for Europe

Whether you need a Schengen Visa depends on the countries you are visiting and your nationality. Australian citizens can enter Schengen Area countries without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. If you plan to stay longer or visit countries outside the Schengen Area, you may need a visa.

Do you cover for multiple trips to Europe?

Yes, AllClear offers Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance, which covers multiple trips to Europe within a year. This can be more cost-effective and convenient than purchasing separate policies for each trip. Our comprehensive coverage ensures you are protected throughout all your travels.

You’re travelling to multiple countries in Europe. Do you need to list every destination you’re visiting?

When buying travel insurance, list all the main destinations you plan to visit. This ensures that your policy covers you in each location. If you change your travel plans, update your insurance provider to maintain full cover.

Are you covered by Medicare in Europe?

Medicare does not cover medical expenses in Europe. Australia has healthcare agreements with some European countries, but they have limited cover. They do not include emergency assistance, repatriation, or medicine costs.

What sports and activities are covered under your policies?

AllClear’s travel insurance policies cover many sports and activities. These include low-risk activities like swimming, hiking, and sightseeing. They also include some higher-risk activities, like skiing and scuba diving. Cover may vary based on the policy type and your age. Check the policy details or contact us for specific activity cover.

Will my photography equipment be covered in Europe?

Yes, AllClear’s travel insurance can cover your photography equipment in Europe. This includes protection against loss, theft, or damage to your equipment. Check the policy for limits on cover. Specify valuable items to ensure they’re protected.
